Default tire switch on same rims

hey ive got aftermarket rims. the size is 255/35/ZR20 i need two new tires and have been looking around fora good deal. I found some used tires but the size of them are 255/50/20 My question is can i use these bigger tires? correct me if im wrong but the 255 is the width and 35 is the aspect ratio or sidewall. so it would just give me a bigger side wall. ami able to do this? thanks

An associate at the Goodyear Tireand Rubber Company does not recommend that size. Going up to the 255/50/20 changes the over all diameter of the tires, from 27.02 to 30.01 inches. The rule is that your can only go up or down one inch of diameter. Doing so can cause braking problems and destroy your differential/transaxle. Use this calculator to determine proper replacement tires.

But of course that's all meaningless, because the rims don't belong on the car.
