Default Torsion Bars

Have 1970 Eldorado motor, tranny, axle andsuspension added to back of 1976Pinto wagonmaking it a mid-engine hot rod. The frame, including torsion bars and bracket, sticks out behind the rear bumper. CanI shorten the torsion bars to clean up the looks? If so what would be the effect? Would some other adjustments compensate for the change? If cutting the bars would ruin them could I have some made to length?.....Thanks.....Kevin

BIG5,
I spoke to a couple of local suspension shops who said it was best left alone. I don't consider them suspensiongurus on this topic though, they're frame repair/straightening guys. I'm sure they know what they're doing but I think I needan auto engineer or someone building hot rods from the chassis up. In the spring when the car shows start up I'll start asking questions. This site is pretty comprehensive and I thought I might get lucky and get someone with knowledge or experience. Thanks for suggestion.....Kevin
