I have heard of people adding sound absorbing mats to decrease tire and/or road noise. Then you should be able to hear more from your speakers if the car noises are quieter I think is the plan.

dynamat cuts down on sound being lost through cracks and holes and voids in body panels and cuts down outside sound as well.
Its definitely worth the cost if you ever heard a car with then without. Not very easy to do since by the time you rip the car apart and
install the matting you done forgot what it sounded like before. Also will protect your system but cutting down to outsiders hearing it and stealing your junk1
Matting the trunk lid also will cut down on the rattles you get from a good set of subs. I even go as far as to take off the bumper covers and pad the bumper
with some 3 inch foam. Keeps that license plate quiet!
