2017 XT5 HVAC Control System No longer responding!
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue of the HVAC Control System not working after battery issues?
I picked my 2017 XT5 up from the dealership for repairs, and my HVAC System was not working. No heat, defrost, AC, or blower! My settings in the CUE shows changes, but does not engage, and the physical switches will adjust settings in the CUE, but does not show on the module.
I’ve been advised that I will need to replace my HVAC Control Module, at a cost of over $1500, before they can even diagnose the issue and there are no guarantees that will fix it!
It was working when it went in, but not after I picked it up. To make matters worse, I have had to replace my battery 4 times in the last 4 years, and as you all know, they are not cheap!
I’m so frustrated and don’t see the logic in paying over $1500 with no guarantee, before we can even figure out what the exact problem really is!
**** I have owned this vehicle since it had 18k miles and (5) years left in my warranty. It was ONLY serviced by the dealer, until this recent issue! I am the 2nd owner. Considering how many times it’s been to the dealer for the parasitic drain, I feel it should have been checked against that NHTSA government recommended recall alert!

I had it done for about $500 at a mechanic’s shop. They claim to have replaced the module with a OEM part from the dealer, but I later realized I don’t have my full functions!
I have not had to replace my battery again and it no longer drains after sitting idle for 2 days or more, but I also don’t have use of my full HVAC functions in my CUE like my heated seats, defrost, or full temp range. We’re thinking they may not have had full access to the programming.
Another theory I have is that the initial issue is tied to something electrical and minute with the Onstar system. EVERYtime I let the membership go in the past, I began to get the unexplainable parasitic drain on my battery, that I was alerted to by my alarm mysteriously setting off fir no reason, constantly. However, due to the age of my car I didn’t think it was necessary. They have never been able to access the cause of the drain, but I can directly collate it to the same timing of the subscription interruptions.
I was tired of dealing with the constant battery issues, so I have maintained a membership since. So, I’m really not sure which is actually helping!
For what it’s worth, I also found this do***ent during my research. I’m going to attach here, that may be helpful. (When I questioned the dealer, they claimed it did not apply to mine’s.)
