Is There Such a Thing as an Honest Car Dealer?
I am not hating on any dealers especially if they are honest, but lets be real....how can honesty survive in car dealing? You are in the business to make money, commissions, sale cars and if you go strictly by the numbers, most of them would break even....at least thats what I think and breaking even in the car business does not seem profitable.
NAFTA, you are wrong! (sorry).............6ftladycop, a dealer, gm, gsm, sm, salesman, and all concerned in the car buz, that arehonest, make lots, and i mean lotsof $$. very easily!.....
some of the antics used, tend to create a dishonestmind set for the customer. you need to know car-hes try to sell for as much as possible. buyers want to spend as little as possible. when have you ever went in and paid what the window sticker says the price is? and did you ask for a better price?.... ok, so you started it....hehe.... remember, salespeople (car-hes) do this every day, they are professionals. they, if a good salesperson know where you are in the process before you do.
in any case........the attorney general has, in most states, very strict laws that make dealers tow the line. yes there are a few bad apples in every basket, but as a whole the NEW car dealers are honest.
6ft, hope this helps...

Let me add to this ...
I have met great dealer guys, sales, techs, mgt ..
I have met some rude SOBs, mostly mgt types.
in all my decades of buying, dishonest I have yet to meet there.
however, my last 6 cars, were bought from "PRIVATE" individuals, most
highly recommended .. 3 of the 6, I classified as dishonest. the other 2 blurred, one perfect.
1. one of the three went to extremes to cover up defects and never disclosed,
2. one of the three never delivered the whole package,
3. one of the three was selling what was not his to sell.
4. of the two left, one I am going through steps to recover losses of undisclosed defects,
will report after it is final ..
5. the 5th, worked out pretty good but even then, there was a defect that he didnt disclose
and I choose to live with ...
6. all as promised .. perfect !
dang .. that is 5 out of 6 ?
OK .. i saved lots of money buying private, but there is risk and consequences of which
I am well aware of .. BTW, ebay is even riskier !!! buying in ebay is worse than buying at
your local car auction where you can at least touch the car .. ebay is a gamble, win some,
lose some.
no .. i am not a dealer or have i ever been or a sales guy or a mechanic .. in fact i an not connected
with the auto industry in any way shape or form except for being on a website or owning cars.
now that i say that, allow me to say that it is the dealers purpose to make as much profit as they can
and it is the buyers purpose to buy as cheap as they can .. it is sort of a dance.
done well, both walk away with a smile like a good date, both feeling like they got what they wanted.
done badly, someone feels screwed, having given up something that felt badly.
the same act, but seen with different eyes.
THAT my friends is the American way .. there is not conflict of interest.
Independent used car dealers that come and go, may or may not be .. honest .. that is a buyer's beware market.
in my area, we got good "used cars dealers", branched off the "new car dealers" and concerned about their
whole reputation. We got lots of good independent "used car dealers" and then we got the bad apples.
Bad apples? sure, some but not so many.
now, ask the same question about "persian rug" dealers .. that sell $100 "Made in China" rugs for $1,200.
I just have one thing to add for thought. There are three car dealers in my town who have all been in the business under their same names for the past fifty plus years. A Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler.
I submit that they all would have to have been honest and fair to their customers to still be around.
Now for the abundance of Toyota, Honda and Hundai dealers that have been popping up everywhere, only time will tell.

hyperion...... oh the good 'ol boys, your Ford, Chev, and Chrys dealers...... watch out, they might be the ones that own the Toy, Hon, and Hun stores...yes, yes
