Default Free Car

We got a free car yesterday, yup, it drives pretty well, looks pretty good, in fact I was there when it was boughtby my wife's girlfriend who asked me to help her buy a car back in '98 and we settled on this 1994 Buick Regal 3800 V6. Mostly I liked the big V6 and it's Plain Jane looks. She's had it all these years, 120,000 miles now, and now her mother is too old to drive so she's taking over the old girl's 2000 Crown Vic 30,000 miles. Lucky us, our friend gifted the car to my kids, well my 20and 18 year old that is.

The car may be free but the Ministry of transportation is making sure they get something out of this, safety check, $75, emissions check $35 and sales tax on the whole sale value of the car another $80, license plates $20 and registration for one year $74. Nearly 300 Bucks! Well I guess I shouldn't complain, we are the proud owners of a 1994 Buick that we got for free, now the fun will begin, how much maintenace do we think a 13 year old car will cost us? It's anybody's guess.........

I don't get your question.

My 73 LeMans GT is one of 3,761 built , actually rarer than a GTO with 4,806 built that year, our GMC Suburban is my wife'sdaily use vehicle for the rest of the kids and dogs and my Cadillac is well, my Cadillac. Are you suggesting that there is something inherently wrong with a Buick, a car built in the #1 quality GM plant and equipped with what is probably one of the best engines ever manufactured by General Motors, rated at 185 HP which can take this mid sized car to past the end of the speedometer, which is 180 KPH. It has 4 wheel disc brakes and 70 series tires, AIR bags, dual climate control, cruise etc....As a vehicle driven by a single femalehigh school teacher to and from school it almost meets the definition of "Cream Puff", she put on about 60,000 miles over the past 10 years. It's the first 65,000 though that we don't know about. Car was registered to GMAC and has this 9C3 code to it. The girls are happy to be able to have something to run errands and go to and from University and even though the car looks close to mint I promised them I won't get upset if the bang it up.. I like it so much I'm thinking about parking the Cadillac when the winter comes because she also gave us a $700 set of killer Yokohama high performance ice and snow tires.

Maybe you can tell me what your question means.

IMO, there is nothing wrong with a Buick.

It is just that i see kids these days refusing to even ride in cars that are not defined as "cool"
by their friends. As an example, my own kid choose to buy a $700 junker & insurance with his own cash.
That car is an eyesore but considered "cool" even though it is banged up, ripped seats, and looks like crap
rather than drive the family car for free.

These days, I see a lot of that. That is all.

Ok, so you are actually complimenting my offspring on their practicality. LOL! I wouldn't exactly say the Regal is cool but I was thinking about making it into a NASCAR replica of the one Bobby Allison campaigned and won the Daytona 500 in, you know the #12 Miller Buick Regal, nice Gold and White with Red paint scheme, that would have to be cool.

There you go.

Should they ever complaint, you can always give the car a NASCAR paint job.
That certainly will make it cool with friends.
