New Member, big problem
Hey there, I am a new memeber. I have an 83 El Dorado 4.1L Gas that has been giving me problems and thought I would join in to get some feedback and provide some feedback on the problems I have as they get resolved. Hope I can help someone else with direction as I get these issues resolved. I belong to a couple other Cadillac Forums in hopes to get a broader range of input which means more feedback I can provide on this site.
I posted a question regarding a prblem that has me without my Caddy- she is out of commission and no one can find the problem. I have got one response to my post and was hoping someone could assist me with feedback on my issue or a place I may be able to get some more definative input.
My car has been dying on me, like a vacuum lock- no sputtering, just dies and I have to wait about 20 minutes and it is fine like there was no problem. Problem got more frequent. Now in the shop, the car will flat out not stay running longer then 1 minute. After being at the shop for 10 days my mechanic has ruled out everything he can think of. Proper fuel pressure (he states the injectors, pump and all fuel related issues have been checked), tested the distrubutor pick up assembly, replaced the control module for the distrubutor, checked all plugs, vacuum lines.
Any input you have AT ALL on this or suggestions on where to turn would be GREATLY appreciated. I will post all information once the problem is resolved as to what it was and how it was fixed so that hopefully it will help even one person not have to go through this and spend this much money in diagnosis.
Help please :-) and thanks amillion! Christopher

1) Ground wires are supposed to be attached to ground. 2) Were / are there any codes? Do not use scanner to get codes! You have to use onboard, post any E codes, if there no codes only 7.0 will come up. 3) Fuel press should be 9-13 lbs and should not fall to 0 as fast as car dies. 4) Will engine stay running if you rev it up? 5) Are both injectors spraying? 6) Is egr vave stuck open? 7) Is converter stopped up? 8) Will igntion spark a tester? 9) When car won't start, what is going on with 3,5,and 8? 10) Will car run if you try to set timing?
