Default introduction and fuel question

Hello, My name is Steve and this is the first time I have posted on this forum. I have a 2005 sts and love the car but I have a problem with the gas guage, it will go to full and stay there.

I have talked with a service man and he tells me I may need a fuel level sensor and GM wants far to much money for this item. ($350). Don't mean to sound like a tight butt but I feel this is way to much for this item plus they also tell me it will take another four hours to remove the tank and replace then no guarantee it will solve the problem and another $400.

What has been the experience with any of you guys on this problem? I have to think there is and aftermarket product out there that will solve my problem but have not been able to find one as yet. Is this a seperate part from the fuel pump or is all one piece?

Any suggstions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
