Default Rough Idle and sputtering when coming to a stop..

Hey whats up guys i really hope this forum is still active, its seems kinda dead to me?? I hope not!! Well i just got a 88 Brougham d'elegance and i love it!!! Wow that air suspension is amazing how it bounces!! Only has 80k on it and i got it for $1400, what a steal!!! Anyway after she warms up after about 20-30 min or so when i come to a stop it wants to sputter and also a rough idle... from reading and everything im leaning towards va***m leak?? Im gonna buy some carb cleaner and spray everything up to see if i hear a change in rpm's and be able to fix the problem... any other ideas from you guys?? I am now an enthusiast for these caddys though, what a smooth ride!! So far i did my plugs, wires, and an oil change, i intend on doing the disb cap and rotor this weekend, i would have done it when i did plugs and wires but i didnt have the parts yet... also anyone familiar with checking and adjusting the ignition timing?? I might just go to a mechanic for that but could that be causing the sputter and or rough idle?? What else should i replace right away? its been sitting since around 04' im guessing because thats when the inspection sticker expired... should i go through and replace all my gaskets? Might be a good idea considering im leaking a little bit of oil from somewhere?? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated, i want to have this car in the best running condition possible and upkeep will be constant!! I hope to drive this car for a very long time, i love it!!!!!! Thanks in advance for any tips!!

Hey there: You never mentioned what engine we are dealing with. That is usually a big start point. I would definitely be doing a carb job and the fuel filter. How has it been performing for the most part?? Have you tried pulling any codes off the diagnostic system??You were right when you said the upkeep will be constant, have been constantly at my 81 right up till now.

Hey its the V8 5.0L ... its been running pretty good actually, I did some work Saturday I sprayed carbon cleaner and heard rpms rev and actually found a va*** hose that was so old it completely disconnected so I replaced that and it has helped a lot , the hose that follows to the left of that one looks really bad too, hopefully this weekend I can fix that one, it goes under the distributor and then I don't know where, I need to jack it up to follow it... it sat for so long that hoses are pretty beat but other than that it runs pretty Damn good... I still need to do my fuel filter but I'm waiting on my factory service manual cause I don't know where its at...
