Default New to Forum, Help! Timing Replace, P0009, P0018 DTCs

Hi all,
Not sure what happened to my first post.. so I'll write this summarized.

Bought 2008 Cadillac STS, 3.6L, 123k miles from auction. Engines codes P0008, P0009, P0018, P0300, but ran/drove fine. I replaced timing chains myself instead of stealerships $2,500 quote, which they verified bad chains. Also replaced oil/water pump. Very bad oil build up in camshaft and timing cover which I thoroughly cleaned all and replaced all fluids. Cranked up and idles fine every10 minutes or so engine light pops up and reader displays DTCs P0009 and P0018. I followed all Coyle's replacement specs, double checked my work.
What else is there? Has anyone ran into this? At a lose, bought this car for a commute and can't even get it inspected due to engine light.

I've also recently replaced Bank 2 Sensor A and the Camshaft solenoid actuator. Still no fix.. I don't feel the Bank 2 chain is off. Could this be a crankshaft failure?
Anyone?

Cadillac Lover No More

I can see from these forums that I am not alone with the problem I am having.

I moved to this wonderful country in 1985 and purchased my first Cadillac, a 1978 Coupe DeVille shortly after that. They are not sold in the U.K. and Australia and I loved everything about it.

I currently have a 2008 CTS which I have treasured also, until about 6 months ago. So why is this sadly going to be my last Cadillac?

My check engine light is on. I have had it checked by numerous repair centers and they all confirm that the code is P0008 and that this is a timing chain issue. Apparently that appears not to actually be the case. Cadillac has informed me that it is actually a sensor issue.

I asked the agent in the service department why my car was not exhibiting any symptoms and indeed why I couldn’t even hear anything. I was informed that I wouldn’t hear anything because the actual problem was that a link was only VERY, VERY slightly out of line with a sensor. I was further informed that the timing chain would undoubtedly last ‘another ten years’.

So I then asked whether the only reason I needed to have it replaced was because of the sensor. The agent confirmed this.

Obviously this is ludicrous. The price for a new timing chain is over $3,300. A fee that Cadillac has been collecting from its customers for work that does not need to be done.

I have discovered that there have been numerous problems with the sensors and that a Customer Satistfaction Program was instigated to correct these issues:

The total number of U.S. vehicles involved is approximately 383,000.

That is correct. The approximate number of vehicles affected was 383,000. The program was in effect until February 28, 2013. The program was subsequently extended until 2017, just one year before my light came on. There was also a requirement that the vehicle had done less than 120,000 miles. My Cadillac has done just 78,739 miles, another indication that it is most unlikely that it needs a new timing chain.

Unfortunately I had not been aware of this recall. A representative at the California Customer Service office told me that the program may be further extended but it is not in operation at this time.

The National Customer Service agent has been most courteous but with no satisfactory result. They required that I have the check engine light code confirmed by Cadillac, a fee of another $168 but the representative feels very strongly that it is most unlikely that Cadillac would assist me anyway so it would be just another unnecessary expense.

This ‘problem’ has naturally reduced the resale value of the vehicle but I will soon dispose of it anyway and purchase a vehicle that the manufacturer will stand behind when a problem is clearly bogus.
