the original issue is not important. What happened next, is!

my mechanic showed me the Coolant Temperature Sensor; put his finger on it, on the passengers side close to the throttle body; said was probably defective & needed to be replaced.

Bought a coolant temperature sensor (CTS): took the old one off (did not know at the time that this was the Intake Temperature Sensor (ITS) ) put in a new one, electrical plug would not work. (looked inside & thought: coolant should be coming out)

Before I replaced the ITS with the CTS in the ITS hole: I smelled the end of the old ITS & it smelled like gas.

I filled up the ITS hole with coolant. rethought about the smell of gas: siphoned out all that I could. Did not start the car.

am I doomed ?

I know this will be good for laughs at the shops.

optional .. pour about quart wd 40 in throttle body then crank again till no liquid comes out. dry off or replace plugs and install.

reconnect distributor and see if it will start, its gonna smoke and run rough for a few minutes but should clear up.

If it has loud knocking its really broke if its been for several days it maybe done also....Its no different deal then when you leave out the drain plug for the boat at the dock and decide to go fishing..lol

Removed ITS; poured 1 quart of alcohol & let it set a couple of days
Removed all plugs; turned engine over for 10-15 seconds/5 times
Replaced plugs; it started right up.

was Lucky as lucky as I think?
pouring a quart of alcohol in the .. not sure where .. could be unpredictable.
