Fuel injector problem-1990 Cadillac Eldorado
Hello,
I just bought a beautiful 1990 Eldorado, 100K miles, dark blue, sandalwood interior. First time I drove it, it seemed to miss, no power, weird shifting. Brought it in to a "modern" reputable auto shop where I absolutely trust the owner and mechanics.
Got a call this afternoon (Oct 27, 2010) from the shop. Traced the problem to a fuel injector. He's ordered the part and will be installing it tomorrow. Cost of repair . . . Just under $400.00. The injector, he said, was $240 some dollars.
While I'm sure he's right that the injector is the problem, I question whether it's necessary to jump to the conclusion that a new part is needed. I'm sure that no attempt was made to clean the existing part.
As far as I know, there are no moving parts in an injector. Therefore, unless it was damaged from a backfire or some other trauma, it SHOULD be able to be cleaned.
I know that not every shop has an injector cleaning machine. I also know that there are some parts places that clean injectors as well as bigger shops that have machines.
Cleaning an injector, or cleaning ALL the injectors at once has gotta be less expensive than one new injector at $240+
Need some quick feedback you mechanics. The morning comes early.
Thank you.

Hi dear you should go to the Dealership and purchase some fuel treatment cleaner,....do it yourself!!!
change your fuel filter if that doesn't work.
Start off with small steps and thats how you narrow down the choices or problems that may be wrong with your car.
