Default Fuel Cable & sift linkage release

I am attempting to remove my N* engine (Head bolt problems) and find that I am stalled at the gate. The Fuel cable has a clip of some sort that holds the cable on and I can't see how to release it without damaging it. I have also encountered the same type of problem with the shift linkage. it has a plastic ball clip holding the linkage to the lever. I have tried to pry this off with on success and again am concerned about damageing it. Is there some tool or trick to these two problems
