Error Code P0366
Hello. I have an 08 STS (V6 AWD) which I've recently had to get an emissions test on, sadly I failed. The car was running fine, albeit a few error codes i.e P0016, P0017, P0018 etc. all of which pertain to the Camshaft and Crankshaft sensors, I also was receiving misfire codes P0300 etc. but the car was running fine. The Bank 2 Cam and Crankshaft sensors got replaced first (error code P0018) which put the car in a near undrivable state, I made it off of the repair shop's lot and just barely made it back misfiring horribly the whole way (this also took out my battery). We then pulled the ignition coils and sparks plugs (error code P0300) where after that it would only crank but not start, which brought me to address the P0016 error code which which pertained to the Bank 1 Camshaft sensors which, yes, got pulled. At this point after numerous start-up attempts, it started once and ran rough for a couple of seconds right before shutting off and not starting again.
I figured because the Bank 2 sensors were AC Delco and the Bank 1 Sensors were from a local auto parts store (not AC Delco) that this might be where the P0366 code came from, which at this point is only 1 of 3 codes of originally around 18 codes remaining. The P0366 code in a nutshell states that the Bank 1 Camshaft sensors aren't reading the Bank 2 Crankshaft sensor, so I went back to the local auto parts store and picked up matching Bank 2 Cam and Crankshaft sensors but still nothing. I have 2 more Camshaft sensors for Bank 1 (AC Delco) and plan on putting the other AC Delcos back on Bank 2 figuring that there might be a problem with the brand. The anticipation is killing me, are these 4 sensors keeping my car from starting?? It was running just fine. I don't want to keep swinging and missing but I also don't want to do any unnecessary repairs. Any input on this?
*Update* It has just occured to me why the new parts that have been placed in my engine don't work. So my question now, does this engine take 2 or 4 Variable Valve Timing solenoids?
