Default caddy won't start

I'm new to this forum but i know that you guys have a lot of experience with cadillacs. My problem is that when i go to crank my 2004 cts 3.6L V6 the pwer goes out and my key gets lodged in the ignition. i've played with the battery and noticed that when i go to connect the negative battery cable that i get a click and it sounds like something maybe pwering up and then i can start my car but then power goes in and out will driving. What is the problem just got back from Iraq a few days ago and driving my car was one of the things i was looking forward too and haven't been able to do it. Can someone please help me out!!

You can check battery cables for condition, and condition of connections(including at cylinder block). You may need to take it to Cadillac dealer to get it sorted out.
