another failed gasket .. $1,500
just got a call from a family member that ignored my recommendations to change out the coolant on his
1999 car.
Car overheated on Sunday, then took it in for a new water pump .. or so he thought .. call just came in,
failed headgasket, original coolant never changed. Repair Estimate: $1,500 .. cheap as "mechanic" is
a friend charging half time moonlighting.
People, for any ALUMINUM ENGINE, ANY car, ANY maker, read the COOLANT FAQ on this site ..
spend the $30, save the $1,500 to $3,000

the bad news just got worse.
not only was headgasket bad, but the block cracked.
repair cost $6,500
car headed to the junkyard.
he is mad as hell, is hard to not feel for the guy, but then again,
he didnt need advice and ignored the recommendations.
Again, if you dont want to spend the $30 every two years to change out coolant,
you are a gambler.
