Default 99 Eldorado - Low Voltage

Hi Techs,

I'm a new owner of a '99 Eldorado and after having it a week, I had to have it towed home tonight. I ended up losing voltage. I read the 'how to get your codes' advice and received the following:

P0741 - TCC System Stuck Off
B1983 - Device Power Circuit Low
B0856 - Battery 2 Out of Range
B1327 - Vehicle system voltage below 9.0 volts

I'm guessing the P0741 has little or nothing to do with the loss of voltage. The 'non computerized shade tree mechanic' in me wants to blame the alternator, however I'd like to get the advice of those more knowledgeable before I go wrenching.

Thanks for your help!

Default RE: 99 Eldorado - Low Voltage

hey man sorry to tell you that it is the altenantor, it aint that bad i just did one on my 97 eldo etc,

1. disconnect battery
2. take fans out
3. take radiator out
4. now you can reach everything and able to take it out
5. you will need to take belt off
6. take front bolt off on the belt side
7. now it gets hard to take off the bolt that is behind the exhaust manifold
8. get your self a mirror to look and a third and forth hands to help
9. get your self a swiville and your socket and about 2 long extensions
10. take your socket and swiville and go behind the exhaust manifold to put sock on bolt
11. have your friend look thorugh the mirror and his hand through one of the exhauset onpening and put it on the bolt head
12. take your time you will get it on there and out go slow
13. once you do that pull the altenator out
14. replace everything but you do not have to put that very back bolt that you need the swivile for back on i left mine off and it is fine

let us know how it goes
