Default 2001 Deville shows P0335

The car has an intermittent "hiccup" where it has an instantaneous loss of power (less than a second), but then it catches itself, and keeps going. It keeps logging the P0335 code, and very rarely the P0385 and P1372. These are all apparently related to the crankshaft position sensing circuit. The frequently-logged P0335 refers to Crankshaft Position Sensor A, so I am inclined to just replace it and see what happens. I hesitate to do so, though, because the repair manual specifies that, after replacing either sensor, you must perform a "CKP System Variation Learn Procedure" that requires a GM-unique scan-tool. I only have “Auto-Tap,” and I am afraid I will not be able to complete this procedure. The car has 62k miles

Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Also, has anyone changed a Crankshaft-Position Sensor, and NOT used the "CKP System Variation Learn Procedure?"

I would appreciate any assistance.

Thank you very much.

Chris

Anyone with a bi-directional scan tool will have the ability to do a CASE LEARN on your car. It is a simple 5 minute proceedure. If you know of anyone with EASE or Auto Enginueity software, it is built in. Also, HPTuners and EFILive tuning software have these built into there systems. Someone into Corvette or Camero performance might have one or know of someone. Other alternatives are "Auto Lab" type of auto shops and the dealers. Any GM dealer can performon the procedure also. What is does is synch the PCM computer with the crank timing sensor

I have an '00 Deville and have had the same intermittent code. Took it originally to a local, reputable tranny place. He ran codes, checked it all out. Told me it's a common problem. Very sensitive sensors trip easily. Suggested I do nothing. That was at about 50k. Car now has 100k. Has happened regularly for the last 50k miles. Will change the tranny fluid/filter see if this might help. Due anyway. Doubt it will. My 2 cents.

When you replace the crank shaft sensor the PCM, they need to communicate to one another they are in synch. The CASE LEARN proceedure accomplishes this task in less than 5 minutes. You have several options if you replace the sensor yourself. One the the Cadillac dealer, another is a high tech repair shop like "AutoLab" who have the necessary computer equipment, the third option is to have a friend who uses a bi-directional cable Scan software. This inlcudes EASE, HPTuners and EFILive. Charges range from $100 at the dealer, $40 at AutoLab and $0 from a friend.

Usually you can replace the sensor and start the car and drive a short distance wthout any problems. As long as you have the code, only do gentle driving and no heavy acceleration or towing.

Chris, I just replaced both sensors, upper and lower no help. My car does the same thing. See my post. I have my personal mechanic rsearching with us. I was afraid it would not be as easy, but I know some tech will know what to check. Let's see if we get an answer. My car has 58K.
We will find out soon enough. I do not have any shop manuals yet.

I forgot to tell you we did not have to learn the sensors with any tool. They were OEM sensors from AC delco same ones we took out. They came from Auto Zone.

You can replace the crank position sensors and the car will run, just not correctly, You need to do a CASE learn (CASE = Crank Angle Sensor Error). This will "teach" the pcm where each of the piston are in relation to crank angle. Until this is done you will continue to experience the intermittent loss of power and more.
