Default Problem with car, Duh

MOVED YOUR POST TO GENERAL TECH SO YOU MIGHT GET AN ANSWER FASTER.

I own a 69 Hearse. It is dismantled for resto. 472 engine. This is a long story with multiple problems.
Fired her up and had to stay on the gas to keep her runnin. Stalled. Would not even start again. Turn key and get nothin,no click , no starter movement, gen light on. Batery ok! Alt ok! Cleaned battery cables,(battery ends, and solenoid end, and grounds. Cleaned solenoid lug and the other two conectors attached to wires down on the lug. Put it all back together. Put key in ignition, gen light on before i turned key! Turn key and get nothing, like before. Gen light stays on no matter if key in or not. What did i mess up now? If i "short" the solenoid to the starter it turns but does not engage the engine. I know the engine has a tuning or choke problem, not woried about that now, want to get the starting system right first. Help isappreciated in advance. PS i am not an ENGINE guy so keep it simple. Thanks.

Remember, any day above ground is a good day!

jeezzzz .. what happened?

it seems you may have several issues.

starter - pull it off and run it on the bench, on battery. IF the gear doesnt extend, you need a new one.
timing - it may be off,
timing 2 - firing order,
timing - timing chain or distributor,
firing - plugs, gaps, fouled, cracked, etc

Put it all back together. Put key in ignition, gen light on before i turned key! Turn key and get nothing, like before. Gen light stays on no matter if key in or not. What did i mess up now?
wiring - something seems mis-wired here, hope you got pictures or wiring diag.

if the starter is slow than that is a problem. try oiling the gear shaft. caddys have an issue with timing chain stretch, but i would almost guess that you have carb problems, dan
