Default 1997 DeVille

Hi. New guy here. I've got a 97 DeVille with aproblem. I checked the Tech and FAQ with no results, unless I missed something.
Anyway, the driver side mirror and rearview mirror no longer automatically darken. Driver mirror looks like a quantity of dark liquid has ac***ulated in the bottom of the glass. I have access to a Snap-On scanner [which I used to diagnose a failed MAF yesterday].As I scrolled through all the screens [no, I was never taught how to use it, my buddy plugged in it for me and said"enjoy yourself"] it said somethingabout a "Driver" being shorted. The only thing I could find on his Alldata was the power mirror memory module in the power mirror circuit. Think that's it? I'm going back to his shop in the morning to plug it back in and get better info. Now that I know about it, I want to fix it. Any help, ideas or explanations would be great.
Thanks
BF

Unfortunely, your drivers mirror has died and will need to be replaced. I dont believe you can get glass separately. Rear view should have LED lit if its on,if not try to turn on or check for blown fuse.Hope it helps

Fuse you say.. I can handle that. There's no lit LED on the rearview. I will follow your advice and report back.

Just out of curiousity, what happened to the driver mirror to crap out like that?

Very common problem on a 10 year old cadillac. Once you start looking for a repalcement you will see how common a problem it is because they command nearly $200 used, close to $500 from GM. You'll need to make sure you get the dimming mirror. I believe your mirror has seapage, just old age. Best to get an entire assembly and paint to match so it is going to cost a bundle. Alternative is to buy a plain mirror from any auto parts store and glue over it... a solution that costs about 18 bucks!

OK, Checked the fuse, it's still good...I cleaned up the contacts in the fuse block just to be sure. Put the scanner back on it and couldn't find that "driver short" , said no codes though.
Any other ideas? or just live with it...
