Default 1994 Seville Northstar issues

I've had to put gallons of water in my cooling system becuase it kept losing coolant fluid. When I add water to fill up the cooling system, the temperature goes back down to 190F and lingers between 190F to 210F, but after of few days it goes back up to 230F. This goes on for about three months. Throughout that period of time, I smelled burning wires and some light smoke was coming from the dashboard, so I turned off the Air-conditioner and radio, becuase I was afraidthe car might catchon fire internaly.
Twice, a couple months apart, Isaw what looked like steamcoming between the cracks of my hood when I came to afull stopafter driving for awhile. Then, one day, I was driving to the shopping mall and I saw white smoke coming out of the back of the car with whatsmelled like gasoline fumes inside the cabin of the car. I was able to make it home, but the motor seemed to be losing power.Does anyonehave any idea what might be the problem withmy poorSeville?

You are describing pretty clear cut symptoms of head gasket failure which is a common problem on early Northstar engines. The gaskets have failed and are permitting coolant to be presented into the combustion process hence the white smoke and steam and loss of coolant and high operating tempuratures. Unfortunately this is a fairly costly repair especially in a 14 year old vehicle.

Oh my..... From what it sounds like, I might have to hire a professional mechanicto fix this problem. Blown head gasket was what most people seem to say as well as yourself, and, from what I read, it's quite a major undertaking. Thankyou for you quick response. I now have some direction as to deal with this problem.

this may help in understanding what is happening.

go here:
https://www.cadillacforum.com/m_6258/tm.htm

also, the '94 N*, i believe was the 1st generation that had the
gasket issues and a warranty recall ?
combine that with no coolant maintanence and one can forecast
a problem?

dont quote me on that, i'm goign by memory on a lot of this
i know that a lot of the '93's had the N* engines replaced and/or
fixed per the recalls.

maybe Gary can help here as i believe his '93 Allante had the engine
replaced.

if i'm wrong i'm sure he will let it be knwon.

The early 93 N*'s had an oil leak problem. I was fortunate to get a new engine in 2000, under warranty. Beyond the 93 N*'s I defer to the other tech guys here.
