I'm beginning to wonder if Nav updates are worthwhile. They just came out with a new disk for my 2011. The one installed on assembly was from 2009 and the first three attempts to use it sent me to locations that no longer existed. The businesses had relocated. And on one occasion it routed me to a road never built. The turn out was there but in 20' I was looking at 5 strands of barb wire, at night! It was a pasture.
And the way their system is a new disk can do that.
And on one occasion when I needed the Nav in the worst way, I was getting a no GPS signal. That also makes OnStar useless for downloading directions since it needs to know where you are to tell you when to turn.
If GM really cared they'd convert the system to something more modern and fix no signal issues for XM and Nav. Also XM no longer, if they ever did, use the SATCOMM system. Remember early commercials where they showed it bouncing signal from satelite, back when cell phones were very few or did not exist. So if you need help from an area that does not have cell service, you really have a problem. My opinion is that OnStar is near useless as well because of that limitation. My cell can do there work, including navigation and they claim they have a billion full time monitoring points so they can almost immediately make you aware of trouble ahead and reroute accordingly. Only issue I have is the tiny screen so it would be wonderful if my cars Nav screen would display it as well.
But here is one issue I have not yet figured out. That is using a USB portable HDD. My owners manual says it should work. I called GM customer service and they told me I needed the update disk to update the system so it would work.
I'm rather mad at them since they put a very outdated map in the system and something the owners manual says should work does not. Yet they want me to buy update disks to fix something that should be under warranty.
BTW, mine is at dealer again, not maintenance.

HI. I'm looking to get the Navigation DVD for my 06 CTS-V.
AS well...I need one for my 05 escalade EXT...
Anyone?
email me at: lalonde70@gmail.com
Need the North American DVD (US and Canada).
Don't really care if it's the "latest" version..just want one that works!!
What a stupid idea to use a DVD...that seems to be very sensitive. Both mine just stopped working?

Default '05 Escalade EXT

Any chance anyone has a nav disc that will work in this? Similar story as a lot of other people - picked it up used and didn't include disc. GM wants $200 for the disc and apparently they are on back-order. Not only that, but when I go to gmnavdisc.com I can't even select 2005 in the Year for the make/model of my vehicle to help figure out exactly what disc I need!
Any help is greatly appreciated. email is my username and Yahoo happens to be my host. djprice undercore 69 at yahoo. Hopefully that avoids any bots searching for addresses! Much appreciated, will gladly send a pre-paid envelope and a bit extra for your time and assistance. I have a 'backup' disc from an '08 model that doesn't work (not sure of the part #) but I'd happily help anyone else that might need a backup copy of their discs as well - dual layer burning is not an issue for me.
