Default engine swap

I have a 99STS with 90,000 miles.Engine blew heads,mech sayed wasnt worth rebuliding.
My question is can i take a engine out of an 2002 sts and put in my car. This engine has less than 35,000 miles. How hard would it be to convert to my 99.
Thanks Tim

It's not a straight bolt in, due y2k engine is a re-design or Gen 2 engine. It has different crank sensors which are larger in diameter. (big deal) Along with coil on plug set up. I have heard of being done, but don't know the details. 93-99 long block is pretty much the same. Crossover does change depending on year. Try to find 99 or earlier STS/ETC vin 9 engine and it will be a simpler swap.

in the old days before computer integrated systems and emissions, engine or transmission swaps were weekend jobs.

these days, if i wanted a different drive train, i would much rather buy a car that has what i want than spend a year of weekends doing a swap that may or may not work, or worse, be disqualified for Federal emissions. and that is w/o even talking about the cost.
