Default 2007 4.7 VVT V8 Oil Change

I haven't done any oil changes yet as I just got the car last Saturday. I was looking through a service manual from alldatadiy.com regarding oil changes for this engine and it says that when changing the oil filter you should fill it with oil. I've been doing most of my oil changes since I've been 17 and this is the first time I've ever read that on any car. Not that I disagree with it but when did this recommendation start?

good question .. i like to know also.

having the filter full when the engine starts would speed up the priming and flow of oil so it is a good thing .. but i wonder if even the dealers follow it.

Hey guys,

I was told years ago to always fill my filters with oil when changing it. It was for the reasons that Stomper mentioned. I can't do it with my 07 STS 3.6 v6 because it has a drop in cartridge setup which doesn't allow me to add oil. Nice having the filter on top though.
