Default 2000 STS Tail light diode burnt 2X, not a LED

Hi, thankyou in advance for any help in this. The wire harness for the tail lights have a "diode" (at least it looks like a diode"on each side for each bank of lights. I had a bulb go bad afew weeksago, replaced it and right before my eyes the black tape encased harness swelled up and the diode exploded, the right side followed soon after. This left my left side far right light out but oddly all my right side ones kept working. Well, I ordered a new harness and all new bulbs and put that all in and everything seemed fine for about a week, then I noticed my far right light on the left bank of lights was not on.. The diode had exploded again for the left side. now that light is out along with the middle light on the right side bank. All bulbs test fine with an ohmeter and all are new. Any help at all would be great before I spend another 130 on another harness

It is not a diode it was a resistor. Only suggestion make sure you are using correct bulbs should be 3057. As far as resistor if you still have a good one, you could try to match one up from Radio Shack. Then solder it in where burnt up one was, and save some money. Also gm parts sold over the parts counter carry 12 month unlimited miles warranty. It is a part only warranty - no labor. However, if your there every 2 weeks for new ones. They will suspect its not part its car that is defective.

Thankyou slowroll. A resistor makes more sense back there and I did try radio shack but the indentifiers did not match what they had. I am using the 3057s also....maybe a bad one though?...Thankyou, i wasn't sure of the warranty

Just to finish this up. According to the dealership I use GM does not warranty any electrical parts at all. What I ended up doing was cutting the burnt up resistors out and just used 14 awg wire there. What that did was burn up one of the filaments in the bulbs on either side but it allowed everything else to work fine. So now all lights are one when headlights are on (minus the led strip) and when brakes are applied the led strip lights and the one light on each fender brighten up, all the ones on the trunk stay the same. This works well for me and looks pretty normal too
