Default Navigation system

I recently purchased a 2005 SRX with the Bose system, CD player but no navigation. I was recently in a CTS that has the navigation system, and although I'm still not interested in the actual navigation part, I really like the audio display and the fact that the name of the song and the artist is always there as opposed to having to press a button as I have to do now to see that. I also like the way the pre-sets are displayed, so I would like to get one installed, however I am being told by me dealer that they cannot install it because it has to be done at the factory. It would seen to me that this would be just a component that could be swaped out and programed. Does anyone know if this is doable????????????

Thanks

hmm..i worked at a dodeg dealership and we sold navigation to ALOT of people who opted not to get it until they saw it in action, then they wanted it...try checking directly with the parts department.

Does anyone know where I can get a Nav System Instruction booklet? I have a '04 SRX with touch screen but I don't have the booklet. I can't buy one without buying the whole map CD for $200. If I can get one, I'll copy it and return it if necessary.

i heard there are nav systems that will enable the owner to control the whole car system even without moving any buttons or is it more correct to say controls, inside the car. or can even hear conversations of people inside the car.

sounds really interesting.

my sister has a cts w/o the nav in it and she's trying to do the same thing. the problem is that the wiring is completely different then the one with the nav. in order to actually do it and do it right you would need to change the entire wiring system for the car and that is not only a pain in the *** but also extremely expensive. i don't recomend trying to do so because these cars are made to work a certain way with the features it came with and when you swap out something like the wiring system then your going to cause yourself a whole new set of problems that will put you in a very frustrating position.
