Default 2010 Srx cam position sensor (code p0340)

I was wondering if anyone has had this same issue and/or has any advice to what could be wrong. Symptoms 1. Engine light came on. 2. Sluggish when cranking or starting. 3. Seems to be burning a lot more gas.
I had a friend with a computer hook it to my caddilac it came back with the code P0340. We looked it up and it says it was the cam shaft position sensor. So I located it on my engine and there was one that had a bit of oil around it and it looked to be broke. So I had a friend remove the sensor and it was chewed up at the end of it. We placed it with a new sensor and when the engine is running you can feel a slight knock on it if you put your finger to it. We hooked the computer back up and it is giving me the same code P0340. I don't know what else I can do. If someone has any info I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Sounds like your chains and guides are worn. My 2010 had a similar problem. Was throwing codes for chain stretch. Dealer wanted $2700 cdn so I pulled the motor myself and swapped them and did a mild rebuild. It's an insane job and I do not recommend doing it yourself unless your ready to buy a bunch of specialty tools like cam and flywheel locks. Cam locks $30 on ebay and I made my own flywheel holder otherwise they're $150
