Default Rusted Rear Crossmember '95 STS

I'm new to posting, so bear with me.
I've got a '95 STS with 156k miles.
Runs great, minor issues except:
Just found out the rear suspension crossmember is extremely rusted.
Any advice on replacing this part?
What's the proper name for it?
Can I get a new one from GM?
A "performance" one (I have all original suspension).
Used?
Prices?
How's labor for a beginner-intermediate do-it-yourselfer?

Any thoughts are appreciated

Chris

A photo would be helpful. I'll take a stab at it though. I suspect the cross member is welded on each side of the frame as opposed to being bolted. In this case you are looking at cutting it out. For a 18 year old car you are going to have to get a good one from the salvage yard or have one fabricated and then welded in place. I venture to saythis is beyond most back yard mechanics abilities.
