Question about complete tie rods

Default Question about complete tie rods

I need to replace the complete passanger side tie rod on my 97 seville sts, both inner and outer. Does anyone know where i can find a DIY either on this forum or online. Also are there any special tools that i will need for the job?

Are you sure the ineers are bad?

Both my 2001 ate outers at 70 K

Checj Ebay for parts.

$45 each at auto parts store

I found them for $22 for a SET on Ebay

Im 100% sure the passanger sides is bad. In fact its so bad it snaped in 2 peiced -- long story (brother decided to take the car off road and i inturn now own the car with intentions to fix it)

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

[*]Rack and pinion assembly from vehicle. Refer to POWER STEERING GEAR AND PUMP.[*]Do all steps under "REMOVE OR DISCONNECT," refer to RACK & PINION BOOT and BREATHER TUBE.
[*]Shock dampener (13) from inner tie rod assembly (12) and slide back on rack. NOTICE: Rack must be held during removal of inner tie rod (12) to prevent rack damage.[*]Inner tie rod assembly (12) from rack assembly as follows: [/ol]
[ul][*]Place a wrench on flats of rack assembly.[*]Place another wrench on flats of inner tie rod housing.[*]Rotate inner tie rod housing counterclockwise until inner tie rod (12) separates from rack.[*]NOTICE: Rack must be held during inner tie rod (12) installation to prevent internal gear damage.


[*]Shock dampener (13) onto rack.
[*]Inner tie rod (12) on rack.[/ol]
[ul][*]Place a wrench on flats of rack assembly.[*]Place another wrench on flats of inner tie rod housing.[*]Tighten inner tie rod (12) to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.) .[/ul][/ul][*]
Important: Make sure tie rod rocks freely in housing before staking inner tie rod assembly (12) to rack.




[*]Support rack and housing of inner tie rod assembly (12) and stake both sides of inner tie rod housing to flats on rack.[/ol]
[ul][*]Check both stakes by inserting a 0.25 mm (0.010 in.) feeler gauge between rack and tie rod housing. Feeler must not pass between rack and housing stake.[/ul][/ul]
[*]Slide shock dampener (13) over inner tie rod housing until it engages.[*]Do all steps under "INSTALL OR CONNECT,"refer to RACK & PINION BOOT and BREATHER TUBE. [/ol][/ol][/ul][/ul][/ol]
