Default 99 STS electric problems

Please help if you can. Car has mind of its own at times. three times the alarm has gone off when trying to enter the car. used the key in the lock, ignition, and the remote to try to shut it off. Had to unhook neg. battery cable. Then its ok for a while. The latest thing is the battery is dead in the am. Something is running it down but can't tell what.
My gauge cluster also has been blacking out. Have to restart to get it to come back on, and the fuel gauge jumps full to empty.
Grateful for any help. GV

Is it a left-hand drive US vehicle or right-hand drive UK supplied vehicle?

If it's the latter it's more than likely a fault with the aftermarket (crappy) secondary alarm GM fitted to comply with UK insurance requirements when they were imported new.

These units are known to fail and you would be best to just disconnect it, it's fixed to the metal panel behind the rear seat (you have to remove the rear seat back to get to it). It's a small black plastic unit with a white multi-way connector and a positive and negative cable too, just disconnet all these cables and car will revert back to the original GM security system.

Remember, this only applies if it's a UK supplied right-hand drive vehicle.

Thank you for the replies.
No it is not an aftermarket security system. I will check on the drain test, and the battery cells.
It is a left hand US steering car. Thanks guys
