Default 98 STS highbeam problem

Hi everyone, im hoping that someone will be able to share some good advice. For the past week or so the drivers sidehigh beam has been acting up. it works occasionally, every other day or so it gives me the option of running both beams at the same time, but the next thing i know it goes out again. I replaced the bulb assuming that would solve the problem but it is something different altogether. I tested the voltage where the bulb plugs in with a meter but it still reads exactly the same as the right side however it fails to light up. I was looking through the service manual flowchart and noticed that there was a test specifically for the drivers sidelight, is there something else in a different part of the car that would possibly effect the highbeam? What i think is most likely is that there is a faulty ground connection somewhere. Hopefully this was a clear enough description of my problem, just let me know if theres anything i left out. If you can think of any solutions i would greatly appreciate your input.

Default RE: 98 STS highbeam problem

Does the 98 use the high beams for daytime running lights? If so, they are connected in series by a relay so that they operate at half voltage for the daytime function. Can't be sure, it almost sounds to me as if there's a problem in the relay or associated circuits. DTC(s) may well be set to help pinpoint the problem.
