Default 2002 Seville Dash lights issue

The instrument panel lights as well as other dashboard lighting is good one minute and dim the next. Apparently there is a short somewhere but finding it is my problem...big time. At times I cannot read the odometer. I've tried adjusting the light dimmer switch which works some times but not others. Actually it doesn't change the dimness most of the time. Any troubleshooting help at all would be appreciated.

Is it just the cluster or are all the panels go out? If just the cluster goes out I would look at cluster connector. You will need factory service information online or disc. GM went away from paper manuals in 2001

Thanks for your input. It is the cluster in the instrument panel. How would I proceed to get info from factory service?

I would start with the dimmer switch. This is a known problem with GM's Fieros. And fairly quick, easy, and cheap compared to an instrument cluster. I had a lighted switch that worked intermittently (the light part, not function). There was some corrosion on the little wires from the bulb. A little light sanding cured the problem. I suspect something similar- a dirty/corroded connector somewhere.
