RE: speedway cars

AHH! Obviously, the "decals" were the problem. GM wanted to get them off so cars could be shot off to dealers who possibly had already sold them. Not realizing of course that ten years down the road the cars would have been worth a few thousand more.
(Oh well, back to the paint shop where everyone can get an Allante "Pace" car, and who would really know the differance?)

76th Indy 500 Pace Car Decals, 1993 Allante

Zinzin,

here are the 76th Indy 500 Pace Car Decals, used on the 1993 Allante.
The set in this pic sold for around $60.

I dont know how much they sold for at the GM parts counter where they were avail as recent as 4 years ago.
When I bought the front bumper strip SS at my local Cadillac dealer, they still had some - 4 years ago.

GM really doesn't care whether decals were/are on car as long as dealer does not misrepresent car for profit...ie turning base mustangs in to GTs or SHELBYs, Any Vette into a special edition...indy pace,Z06,etc without disclosing car is a clone.Fraud is a major issue with any manufacture. Selling a collector series car as just a plain jane is up to the dealer. I found it disturbing to see what was likely a speedway car being turned into just a red Allante within hours of its arrival. I thought it should has been up to the BUYER including the the addition of anything, including front tag bracket. As I begin my quest I find it odd with all the hoopla over ending their absence at the Indy500, concidered to the US's PREMIER RACING EVENTand CADILLAC THE US's PREMIER CAR BUILDER. Cadillac did not rpo pace cars as limited edition, however the Allante was a limited production car which never reach the maximum of 5000 units. Its possible that cadillac felt all 93's or u84 cars were pace cars. I have read the 93 Allante was mearly a low production test bed for the "NORTHSTAR SYSTEM" which was to hit product during a few months into the regular 93 model year in the ETC and STS. That may have been the only reason the 93's were built. But I am still searching in regards to the original 33.

your comments are echoed in the ranks of the Allante crowd.
to this day, no one can understand .. probably never will.

the matter of being THE test bed, is of course, 100% correct but even more
important, the start of the series in '87s was justified under the category of
"test bed" for much of today's technology.

Oh hell, when I am describing my 87 to anyone, along with the Pina Farina bit and the airfreight to Detroit I always throw in that the Allante was used as a pace car at Indianapolis in 1993. Nuff said!

hey .. that is a great idea.

maybe we can get Bill to make Excel patterns for all the Indy 500 from 1987 to 1993,
we print them out and give them out to our Allatne friends.

lets see .. 70th Indy to 76th Indy ? maybe we can trwo in the '94 .. 77th Indy?
