paint attacked

What has attacked my paint? A small part of the hood, about 9 splotches. Doesn't look like the old time steel mill ash or acid rain or.....
just 9 spots. didn't park it any place out of the ordinary! Any solution or is this a re-paint, Used mild rubbing compound and various Mother's products. Any advice?

i cant tell from that close up.
does it look like the clear coat?
are you in the habit of "buffing out" the car?
if you are, you may have simply have buffed out the clear coat.
OR
the greatest attacker of them all ..
BIRD S H I T sitting on the paint WILL ETCH THE PAINT !
i carry a bottle of water to rinse the bird s h i t, i already had a MK VII's paint
ruined by them critters.
i supposed that animal or tree droppings can both etch the paint.

That does not look like a bird crap attack, although it is hard to tell in your pic. It is also hard to tell by the pic if the if the paint is burned by chemical etc. or stained. I would go to the local paint and body dude and see what they say. If the paint is "burned" buffing won't repair, obviously. Learn the cause and then you will know what needs to be done for the repair.
Go Canes.
