Hello. I friend of mine told me how they were driving along in a 2003 Cadillac Escalade when they started to smell smoke inside the vehicle. They then saw smoke coming from behind the dash. A little bit later they saw a fire starting behind the dash! They pulled over and threw snow on the dash to put it out.

The dealership said that the entire electrical system was "shot" and that replacing the required components would be very costly. They also said that even with all the repairs the vehicle would never again be "completely reliable". They also took it to another repair shop and were basically told the same thing.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening before, or know of any known defects that could cause this? Any help or input would be appreciated. Thank-you for everyone's time.
