Default Code P0741

My check engine light is on, and I'm getting code P0741, I know that it says Torque Convertor clutch switchstuck on. My question; Is this a complete tranny teardown to repair? Or is it an external switch that can be easily replaced? Either way, would anyone have an idea of the price for the repair, whatever it involves. I have a 98 Eldo with 65K on it. Thanks, TJ

such codes are usually related to a switch or solenoid and there is usually no need to overhaul or tear down the trani.
these items are often replaceable by way of access covers.

With your mileage should be a repair. It does have to diagnosed I cant give you a for sure on what you'll need, but figure 800.-2k reman trans installed 3-4.3k .Parts and labor will vary depending on your area and shop. Well under 100k miles overhaul is likely a rip off. No external switch to replace.

Slowroll: Thanks for the info, it's pretty much on the money. My mechanic (a good one) repeats what you stated. Says between $800-$1200 for what has to be done to get to & replace the bad switch, also has to do something to the plates in the torque convertor. Gonna go for the fix!
Thanks Much, TJ
