Unhappy 96 eldorado ac problem

I'm new to the forum and I just bought a 96 eldorado ETC. The ac blows warm air and the blower motor run continuously even after I turn off the ac. I have the service records and it looks like the air condtioner has been an ongoing problem in this car for the past 2 years. According to the service records it has been charged several times and tested for leaks. Am I looking at a very expensive problem here with the AC?

Talking 96 eldorado ac problem

Sorry, I need to make a correction. The fan does not stay on, I did not realize that there was a separate fan control in the back seat and it was on, that is the fan noise that I was hearing. So there is no problem with the blower motor. The car runs perfect I just need to fix this warm ac problem and the heater core.

So, does the car give you a message about the compressor being turned off/low refrigerant at all? That is usually what would happen when you get hot air from the AC. You might have a stored code for this if the message is not being displayed. You will want to follow the sticky in this forum about pulling codes.

If there are no codes, then I would suspect the compressor. Can you hear the compressor clutch trying to engage at all when you turn on the AC?

what does that mean?
if it got tested for leaks why does it keep getting re-charged?
Didnt they take care of the leaks?

also check that the harness to the compressor is plugged in .. it is often disconnected for various reasons and can be forgotten when it comes to plugging it back in ...

Default 96 eldorado ac problem

When I turn on the ac I get a message that says REFRIGERANT VERY LOW/ AC COMPRESSOR OFF. As far as the service records I show two different times that the ac was charged and leak tested. The leak in the system should have been found, there is even a sticker under the hood that shows a dye has been put in the system to test for leaks. My only guess is that the shops were incompetent and had no buisness under the hood of a Cadillac.

Exclamation 96 eldorado ac problem

UPDATE: I got the air conditioner charged yesterday and drove out of town on the highway about 75 miles. The air was ice cold and the fan and temp gauge worked perfectly during the whole trip. I guess I will wait and see if the freon leaks out. The system already had a dye in it, according to a sticker under the hood from the last time it was charged. My mechanic did not put more dye in it.
