It may have air stuck in the system. Check the level to make sure it is full.
200-220 is normal.
237 is a bit high. Was that driving or sitting still?

that was drivivg. i was told by a mech. today that i need a new head gasket. he said it was best to just replace the engine.[:@] i don't know what to do. i haven't seen any water in the oil or any white smoke from the exhaust. it's not blowing coolant from underneath. but i'm just at a lost for words and $$$$$. any suggestion on a reasonable engine would be greatly apperciated

coming from a bit similar situation, what I did is I disconnected the heater hose from the exhaust manifold to prevent hot air into the manifold.

you may need an engine mount for that. make sure the coolant sensor is also working properly.
