Hi again. I'm the guy with the 2001 Deville with 26,000 miles that just had the intermediate steering shaft replaced. Today I went to make a right turn and couldn't turn the steering wheel!! It was really bad at slow speeds but manageable at higher speeds. Went immediatley to the local Cadillac dealer. Diagnosis is a bad steering rack and broken motor mount. How in the hell does that happen to a car that is driven with care with only 26,000 miles?? Repair cost is around $1600.00!! Anybody else out there have the same problem?

 

Steering gears don't seem to be a problem but we see a bad one from time to time.
I think i have seen almost every part fail on any given make and model at one time or another.

The motor mount, now thats a different story, though 26k does seem a little soon for it.
45k-70k miles is when we see most of those mounts going out.
GM has an updated mount with a heat shield to extend its life.

 

Thanks for the reply. I will be calling Cadillac Motor when I get the car back tomorrow. I have never had these kind of parts go bad on any car I have owned with a lot more miles. These are the things that make customers buy those damn Jap vehicles. However that will be a cold day in hell before I go Japanese.

i just bought a 2003 one month and it went in for a water pump motor mount , crank sensors and tie rod ends at 25,500.

 

Talk to your service manager and ask him if he thinks you should call Cadillac and file a claim. If he sees that your car is well maintained he will relay that ifo to Cadillac. I guarnatee you that they will call him. That is a shame to have those kind of problems at 25,000 miles. I wish you luck. I know what you're going thru.

Yours should be under warranty. No need to call Cadillac. 4 year 50,000 mile warranty should cover it.

JUST GOT MY OIL AND FUEL FILTER DONE AND GUESS WHAT - STEERING RACK IS LEAKING ALTHOUGH CADILLAC REPAIRED THE TIE RODS AND MOTOR MOUNT AND CRANK SENSORS AND OIL PRESSURE SWITCH AND WATER PUMP UNDER WARR. YOU MEAN THEY DIDNT SEE THE RACK LEAKING? MY MECHANIC SHOWED ME TODAY. SO ITS BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN .
I HAVE 11 MONTHS LEFT ON MY FACTORY WARR. AND I WILL CHECKING EVERY LITTLE THING YOU CAN IMAGINE UNTILL SEPT OF 07. I HAVE THE CAR 5 WEEKS AND ITS GOING BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE ALREADY. 25,700 MILES. INCREDIABLE.

 

JUST PICKED UP MY CAR FROM DEALER PUT IN REMANUFACTURED STEERING RACK AND NEW TRANS MOUNT.
IM WONDERING IF I SHOULD MAKE A STINK ABOUT THE RE - STEERR GEAR IS IT AS GOOD AS A NEW ONE OR ARE THEY TRYING TO PULL A FAST ONE? ALL UNDER WARRT. I CHECKED THE PART # ON BILL AND ITS A GM #. CAN I DEMAND NEW OR DOES IT DICTATE IN WARR. THAT THEY CAN USE REMANUFACTURE PARTS?
