Default NO LIGHTS ~ can't see

Okay took this baby (99 DeVille sedan) to the dealership and they fixed the AC. Great, now I have no lights. They claimed the did not touch any light parts and I probably needed a dimmer switch. I took the switch off but am not sure how to test it. When the twightlight lever is on I have nothing, when off the running lights are on. When I pull the headlight switch I only have brights. Also I am finding it difficult to find a dimmer switch. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

i be checking the physical area that they worked on for
harness and connector issues.

for sure, i be taking a volt meter and checking voltages at the END
of the harness connector where it plugs into the headlights.

does your model use relays or control modules to power the headlights?

no point on taking the car appart w/o knowing that.

I believe its control modules. Good idea on checking the wires where they were working. They did say they taped some up. Thanks for the idea

Okay, in checking the voltage I get nothing on low beam but okay on hi beam. The dealership told me I would have to completely dismantle the steering column. I purchased a mechanics manual and that is not true. So unless someone can help further I guess my next step is to replace the dimmerswitch, yes??? Bummer. [:@]

Well, back again! Checked all connections, wires, fuses, bulbs and replaced the dimmer switch. The low beams will not come on with the switch turned on. Everything else works according to the book.
When you put the car in gear the low beams come on in running mode. There is no power to the fuses except when the lights are on bright or the car is in gear and running lights are on. I replaced the bulbs although they looked fine.
[:@]HELP!!! this is a mystery.

you gonne need a schematic.

if there is no power to the fuse, is there power to the start of the wire that
goes to the fuse? is that a switch? are the coonections bakwards somewhere?
is this sudden or did someone touched the car before this happened?

i may be wrong, but why would one need to take out the steering column?
unless the subject wire goes there ....

gezzz, now i'm asking more questions than you asked ...
call it logical process.

It was the dealership that told me I would have to remove the steering column. Probably wanted more money. This was NOT true. All this happened with my lights after THEY fixed my AC. Unless someone deliberately changed the connections they are as they were originally. Don't know where to find a schematic. I am going to Virginia in June and there is a wonderful dealership there. If I can't get this fixed I am sure they can trace it. Big $$$ probably. The only power to the fuses is when I can get the brights to come on. Sounds confusine??? Yep sure is.
