Default interior lights question

i have a 86 cadillac sedan deville witha 4100 motor fwd. umm the question is the interior lights stay on even when the doors are shut. Now i just leave the fuse out of the fuse box so i dont have any lights inside except the gauges. Another note: when the fuse is in and the light on with the driver door open and i press the switch by hand it goes off so i figured if i shut the door. The door would press the switch to shut off the lights but no luck they stay on.

Hey Cad: Try taping a small piece of wood or something to the door where the switch touches and see if the light goes out. Maybe the switch needs adjustment or is on it's way out. If you need a new one go to www.usapartssupply.com They have the replacement ones.Good luck. Does your car have the courtesy delay on the interior lights?? The lights will stay on for about 30 seconds till you put your key in the ignition and then go out. That delay could also be the problem.

Yes Brougham1 is probably on the right track. My 99 GMC has a little pad that the door switch triggers onso it seems like the switch is not being depressed with the closed door.
