Default engine removal

Hi folks, newbie here with a question.

I have a 94 DeVille that needs an engine (northstar).
Can the engine be removed from the top?
I understand that it may be harder but, with the I have available, it is more feasible for me.
I have nearly everything disconnected now and I see the rear exhaust manifold is WAY close to the heater box.

Will it come up and out???

thanks in advance

Default RE: engine removal

well i just removed my engine and put it back. i was just like you. i was trying to take it out from the top but i dont think is possible, because of the transaxle. even tho if you try to remove the transaxle it has ahex stick8 inch long.that needs some space so it can come of the torque converter and the flywheel. so in that case you need to drop the cradle and take the transaxle offand if your drop the cradle mine as well take the whole thing off from the bottom it is alot easyER i know it sounds alot but is not !!
if you still want to take it of from the top try loosing all the cradlebolts to like half way, make sure you dont take them off all the way. it could be dangerous the engine could fal on you. than you can remove the exaust pipe. good luck

Engine will come out the top. A manual will be very handy, balancer bolt has to come out. 4.9L intended to come out top. Northstar will come out top, but it's a tighter fit.
