Default engine light help please

hello, i have an 89 deville that i just picked up for 250 bucks at an auction and would be a bargain at 4 times the price, but it does have a few quirks... the check engine light is on, and i tried to use one of those diagnostic computer dealies but it wont transmit. i was hoping that someone here could tell me how to pull the codes with the paper clip trick. i have seen it done before, i just dont know what holes to put the paper clip in. any help would be welcome. thanks

This link is one of the best, I think it has a schematic on what you want to do.
