99 Deville Gas Tank question
I fill up almost once a week and usually get about 350 miles per tank. I keep track every week and when I went to fill up this week I was at 340 and so I stopped in the station. I usually put in about 15-16 gallons in my 19 gallon tank. Last night, I filled up and it actually went to 21.4 gallons!!!! Almost 3 1/2 more gallons than my tank holds! I was shocked...asked the station if they could check it, but the young guy looked at me like it was my fault.
Is this possible to put that much more in? Also...Should I report the station to someone? I probably could of got another gallon in there as well because it just clicked at 21.4. Weird!
Any ideas???
thanks!

RE: 99 Deville Gas Tank question
Did you keep your receipt? In Alabama they ask that you call the Dept of Agriculture when a discrepancy like this occurs. They take fleecing of this kind very seriously here. How could your car hold 3+ gals more gas than the tank capacity? Look in to it, I wouldnt just let that slide.

RE: 99 Deville Gas Tank question
Gasoline volume is affected by temperature. It is always better to fill up late at night when it is cooler. It is also possible to fill the tank so full you fill the filler pipe as well. My 98 Deville takes 80 litres which would be about 19 gallons as you said.
All wholesale gasoline transactions are made on a standard that assume gasoline at 60 degrees F. On a hot 90 degree summer day 10,000 gallons is really only something like 9650 so that's what wholesalers charge. Retailers never adjust for temperature so in the winter we actually get more.
