98 Deville retained accesory power issues
HI - need some advice to try and fix my moms 98 Deville. Recently the alarm has been going off for no reason and now the battery will not hold a charge.
It seems to have an intermittent draw of around 3.2 amps.
Upon doing some investigation, it appears that something is amiss with the retained accesory power. After shutting the car off, removing the key, exiting and shutting the door the radio and power windows stay powered. Now the power cuts in and out frequently and sometimes is only on for a few seconds and other times for 5 minutes, 20 minutes, 40 minutes etc. Sometimes it cuts in and out so fast that the antenna is constantly moving and other times is just stays on continually and then goes totally off for hours at a time. When it is off, the draw is .2 amps. In any result if it is left over night it drains the battery even if the radio is turned off.
Would one start with the RAP relay or what would the advisable procedure be? Really not sure how this is realted to the alarm issues but thats when it all started. Thanks

would like to know a few things first
how did u do the draw test??? cable hook up ? type of meter?
the car can take up to 30 min to fully power down.
need to know how u did the test because u could be the one keeping it awake

I used a multitmeter at a 10 amp setting - one lead attached to the negative battery cable, and one lead to the negative batter post.
I had the meter hooked up for over 4 hours - it would randomly power down and back up over this time frame sometimes in rapid succession and other times sleep for 5 minute, 20 minute and one time a 40 minute period. Each time it draws the 3.2, the RAP relay clicks and the radio comes on.
Hope that helps - thats the best i can describe it.
Thanks

ok you may want to start the quick way
the door switch is what triggers the timer for the rap
if this is faulty it will cause the problem
other wise the ignition switch could cause it as well
but i would start at door switches
u could pull fuse to make sure its the rap system
then from there u will have to find out which unit is the cause
