Default 93 Sedan Deville trans problem

93 Deville, 80,000 mi. 15 amp fuse in the interior relay panel under the glove box blows and the trans starts off in 2nd instead of 1st. Then the engine dies but starts again and will keep running. Fuse has blown several times in the past but now it is every time it is started with the dieing added and then restarting. Any ideas?

We know why the fuse blows, it's because of a bad solenoid in the trans. It starts in limp mode. It used to do it when the weather was hot, but now the weather has been cool to cold (for Phoenix, AZ), it is happening too often.

The new problem now, is that in addition to that, the car will die with no warning what-so-ever.

Has anyone ever heard of this problem in any other vehicle and what might be happening?

Please ask around. Thanks

There are a few things that would cause the stalling. Carbon build up on throttle body, misadjusted TPS, and poor grounds will cause decal stalling as throttle is released. If battery is disconnected, PCM will loose "idle learn" and stalling and surging can occur. Car would restart fairly easily. Are the codes set? FAQ will have info on OBD and codes.

Something else I noticed is when I turn it on, it stinks to high heaven of rotten eggs like the old sulfur smell from cars years ago.
Please let us know if you have any idea what could be causing this as well.

As for the stalling, it stalls when I am driving. I think it was when I was slightly easing off on the throttle to get in the freeway exit lane, and when I turned into the driveway.

Thank you for the information. We will check it out and see if any of it is the problem.

Sulfur odor is typically engine running rich, using too much fuel.
