Default 69 caddy q-jet stainless steel shim

Hello all, I'm new to the caddy experience and am currently working on a 69 and am having trouble finding the stainless shim that goes between the carb and the gasket. I buttoned it back up without it and if I let it sit for a few minutes, it will start back up. If left for 30-45 minutes, it won't start up without priming the carb. When you prime it, the fuel boils or perculates back up for a few moments. I sometime have to prime it twice to get it going. My thoughts on that is that it boils out the fuel in the carb and is running on the fuel that I poured down the carb throat and until the fuel pump can fill the bowl back up, that is the only fuel source. I think the stainless shim acts as a heat shield as well as a spacer. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated on this subject. I have also posted this in the vintage area as well.

Thanks
