Default 2000 Deville Radio Swap

I recently purchased a AM/FM/Cassette/CD radio from ebayto replace my present AM/FM/Cassette unit.

I've read a great deal about the theft loc system and I've noticed several conflicts between different sources of information.

I understand that there is a data link between the radio and car...and that the vin is checked by the radio. Beings my new radio came from a different vehicle I'm assuming the theft loc feature will be activated and the radio will lock itself up. I then can take the car to a GM dealership and they can re-program the replacement radio with my car's information to correct the problem.

Do I understand this correctly?

Thanks!

Doc
