How Long Before I Should Get An Oil Change For 2008 CTS
I have 3000 miles on my 08 CTS, and on the sticker at the top of my windshield it says to get service after 3000 miles, however when I went in today the guy said bring it in after 6000 miles because it has synthetic oil. Anyone have their oil changed yet or know anything about this?

GO by your oil monitor, it will tell you when it is time depending on the driving you do and weather specifics.
most likely way beyond the 6,000 miles behind in CA weather.
there is a thread on this subject in the FAQ section .. take a look at it.

In a nutshell
The oil life monitor does an excellent job of estimating the engine oil life. It takes all of the factors into account that cause the oil to need to be changed. It is the best guideline that there is for knowing when to change the oil as it tailors the change interval to the specific driving schedule that is being used. It is really impossible to tell someone exactly when they should change their oil as each persons driving schedule is different and changes constantly. That is why the oil life monitor is so handy....it tailers the oil change interval for each engine and each driving schedule.

I have a 2008 CTS also, my dealer said the first oil change around 9500 to 10000 miles
is what their are recommending to their customers with Mobil 1

IF you change before the oil monitor says to do it, no harm done, except to your pocket book and enriching OPEC.
The Oil Monitor is king.

Mobil 1 does make a difference, it increases oil life around 30%. Synthetic oil in place of regular - no biggy, regular oil instead of synthetic could lead to problems. Software for oil life can not detect the incorrect oil and not display change oil message till long after oil is worn out.

I agree. Go by the oil monitor. It will probable be 10,000 + miles before it says to change the oil. GM did a lot or research into this subject. They would not risk providing a 100,000 mile engine warrenty if the oil change period was too long and determintal to the motor.
