Aluminum engine headgasket blown fails - new owner/new problem
Hello! I just bought a 97 cadillac, beautiful car, pearlescent cream. 3 days after I bought it it started overheating and guess what head gasket blown! The caddy dealer wants 4500 for used engine and labor!!!! I only pd 2000 for the car. Is it worth it? I don't have that kind of cash anyway. So I guess I'll be trying to part out the car or sell the whole thing. Anyone interested let me know. I live in central florida

You paid $2,000 for a great looking car, you must have wondered why so cheap?
We are seeing more and more of this. 10+ year old cars with headgasket issues.
After 5 years, all aluminum engines are prone to this, regardless of the maker.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY a car over 5 years old w/o doing both a COMPRESSION TEST and a EXHAUST GAS TEST. If you like to gamble, may I suggest that you instead go to Vegas - the sights are good and the gambling will be fun.
then get the car home and change the coolant on the spot.
The money you spend on that, is cheap compared to the cost of a repair.

I know but the seller had a plausible reason. I totally wasn't thinking. I'm thinking the car is going to be worth it but my luck the tranny will go after I replace the engine, Thanks for your response
